Teaching and Coaching

Teaching and learning lie at the heart of my practice – whether running classes for students, expanding my own understanding through study, or reflecting on what I’ve taught myself in terms of growth and development from project to project.

While my directing practice is rooted in Meisner, my teaching draws on the full breadth of my training and experience. I love to take long-term students on a journey through performance history, introducing them to its shifts and changes, helping them to figure out where they fit as artists in an ever-evolving discipline. I am equally at home with short-term clients seeking to polish and perfect a particular performance, or to learn or refresh public speaking skills. I have run and assisted on specialist workshops in the UK, Italy and Germany, including the Teatro Sala Umberto in Rome and the University of Konstanz.

I teach regular classes for Edinburgh Acting School, details of which can be found here. I am also lead tutor and course designer for the Diploma course, accredited by Trinity Laban, and taught the Performance course for two years.

Private one-to-one coaching prices start at £40/hr*, with discounts available for block booking.  Suitable for drama school audition prep, role preparation for working actors, and public speaking/camera skills for corporate clients. I can also offer career guidance on working within Scottish theatre. Contact me to arrange a free consultation.

*If this is beyond your means but you’d benefit from coaching, please request a consultation anyway. It’s often possible to work something out – a discounted rate, a skill exchange, a Pay It Forward session**, or getting my rate covered by other means.

**If you’ve benefited from coaching in the past and would like to donate/contribute towards a pre-paid session for someone in need, please send your preferred amount via my Ko-Fi with a message telling me that’s what it’s for.

I have a number of workshops that are part of my regular repertoire and can be delivered at short notice. These include:

  • Public speaking for non-actors
  • Shakespeare skills (complete beginner to advanced)
  • Writing for performance
  • An introduction to Meisner
  • An introduction to Grotowski
  • Punctuation as a guide to crafting live performance
  • Devising from historical texts
  • An introduction to storytelling

I am also happy to create tailor-made workshops to suit your needs. Please contact me for prices.
